About
Hi! I'm Raisa M. Rodríguez Maldonado, a biomedical visual communicator with a passion to create illustrations, animations and interactive experiences that help diverse communities understand complex medical information.
Born and raised in Puerto Rico, my passion for merging science and art started after I found myself drawing algae in an undergraduate professor's lab. Shortly after, I earned my bachelor's degree in Industrial Microbiology from the University of Puerto Rico in Mayagüez before completing a Master of Science in Biomedical Visualization from the University of Illinois Chicago (UIC).
My journey as a scientific visualizer has led me to explore the intersection of visual communication, science, and community engagement. Through these experiences, I developed a diverse skill set in 2D/3D animation, illustration, and serious game development. My ultimate goal is to bridge the gap between academia and the general public by advocating for better representation in visual media.
Outside the world of biomedical visualization, you’ll find me swimming and unleashing my inner dancer through salsa and swing dancing. I also enjoy exploring Puerto Rico’s rich biodiversity and hidden natural gems through hiking.
